Getting tired of inflexible template designs and sluggish CMS platforms, NY creative consultancy DTE Studio picked Readymag as an online magazine creator and relaunched its publishing platform Masthead Magazine, receiving full control over its layout, web structure and online representation.

Masthead is an online magazine heavily focused on photography—for DTE it serves as a passion project and a new type of brand venture. It recreates the feeling of a physical magazine: you flip through large-scale photographs and find texts supporting them. With celebrity and influencer contributors, alongside artists, poets and curators, Masthead is based on curiosity and open-mindedness.

Masthead was originally made on a CMS platform—with it, the DTE team was confined to template layouts. There was no way to create separate sections for stories meant to be placed anywhere but the main site, so the designers were looking for an online magazine creator that will fit their goals.

“We opened Readymag up and realized that it’s almost like InDesign, but with expanded capabilities for the web,”—says Adam Delisi, a graphic designer at DTE.

Why did they choose Readymag as an online magazine maker?

With Readymag, DTE got the ability to:

Lay Masthead out exactly as they want.

Built magazine pages inside the agency website as microsites, that allow single stories to be told without distracting from the rest of the content.

Carry over the created design language into social posts and videos.

DTE teammates have been able to split up work, where one person would lay out the page, another would manipulate the type and change small copy, and third would do animation and make the page come to life.
