We stumbled across Readymag in 2015 at a design conference—one of the speakers had a presentation with a video background. We were impressed and immediately found out which tool was used and started working with it. —Viacheslav Olianishyn, Obys Art Director and Founder

How do they use Readymag?

Obys designers use Readymag to lay out client presentations and independent projects. Every designer takes one day a week to explore interesting topics, fonts, trends, and techniques. With this time, they create sideline works where their imagination can run free, unrestrained by client briefs and deadlines. As a result, Obys has released several beautiful, award-winning editorials.

Accolades don’t bring us clients directly, but they do make us feel confident about our creative powers. For example, not so long ago, we entered the Webby finals along with sites created by Apple and Adidas. This allowed us to build a strong reputation and brand: we have reasons to turn to larger clients and offer our services. — Viacheslav Olianishyn, Obys Art Director and Founder

Translating poster typography to the web

In 2020, Obys released an educational editorial called Typographic Principles: it explores the rules of type with stunts and exercises, ranging from basic things like play on contrasts to some smaller tricks such as using kerning and tracking. “We aimed to make this project eye-catching and created it in the form of a gallery, combining scrolling and interactivity with unexpected transformations—for example, posters turn into text while the viewer is scrolling,”—says Viacheslav.

Viacheslav Olianishyn’s favorite Readymag features

Animations:
we incorporate on-scroll effects in most of our editorials, because they make narration more interactive and vivid.

Fixed widgets:
this option stimulates our imagination and helps implement many creative ideas.

Typography:
we love to make fonts by ourselves and often take advantage of the chance to upload them for our projects.
