Ettore Sottsass often said he was a Bob Dylan fan. The inspiration for naming his firm “Memphis” came from Dylan’s song, “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again,” which was playing in the office during the group’s founding meeting.

Sottsass was always taking pictures. During one 12-day trip in the United States, for example, he took 1,780 photos. One part of his photo collection is devoted to hotel rooms in which he had sex.
