All links work correctly

All links work correctly

Broken links aren’t just annoying—they can also have a negative impact on your website’s ratings with search engines. Make sure that all links in your portfolio go to the right place, as well as your portfolio URL itself.

Site speed is optimized

The loading speed on a website makes your first impression—you won’t have a second chance when it comes to user experience. We recommend inspecting your portfolio’s performance with Lighthouse, an audit system embedded in Google Chrome. It allows users to test project performance across a range of different devices. Learn how to make your Readymag project load more quickly here.

Images are optimized

Images are optimized

Using images that are too small negatively affects the appearance of your portfolio—they often look pixelated on hi-res screens. We always recommend uploading images that are at least twice the intended size of the widget. We always recommend uploading high-resolution versions of images, which are bigger than the intended size of the widget. To do so, switch to picture crop mode, drag the toggle to 100% value and then just drag the widget boundaries. After adjusting all images, check if the project looks as intended on multiple devices, including the highest resolution display available to you.

Copyright notices & year stamps are up-to-date

You should always prepare for the possibility that someone might try to steal your content. To help deter such conduct, include a copyright notice with your portfolio as soon as it becomes available to the public. This costs nothing and serves as a visible reminder that the work is your intellectual property. Your copyright notice should include the year when the work was created. Do not forget to add new work and update the date in the copyright—otherwise the website will look abandoned and neglected.

Contact details are easy to find

Make it easy for potential clients and employers to contact you: ensure that your portfolio emphasizes your name, email address, location, and professional social accounts. All of this data must be easy to copy and paste (which means that it should be made with the Text widget, rather than an image). Email and social accounts should contain active links.

‘Coming soon’ section is up-to-date

Don’t forget to update your portfolio regularly, especially in case it has a ‘Coming soon’ section with teasers of your works. Otherwise, the whole portfolio will quickly start to look out-of-date.
